Bulldozer maintenance

Bulldozers, an indispensable heavy machinery in construction, mining, road and other engineering fields, are known for their diverse functions such as bulldozing, site leveling and backfilling. In order to ensure its efficient and stable operation and thus extend its service life, systematic maintenance and repair are particularly critical.

Bulldozer

1. Daily maintenance of bulldozer/Mantenimiento diario de la excavadora
(1) Comprehensive inspection before work/Inspección exhaustiva antes del trabajo
Observe the appearance: Walk around the bulldozer and carefully check if there is any damage, deformation or missing parts. Also, check if the paint is intact, peeling or scratched, and the tightness of each connection point, such as whether the bolts and nuts are loose. Check the dirt and debris on the tracks, blades, and radiator to prevent poor heat dissipation or component wear.
Check fuel, oil and coolant: Make sure the fuel tank is full and pure, without impurities or water. Check the oil level to make sure it is within the proper range of the dipstick and that the oil is clear and free of emulsification. Also, pay attention to the coolant level to make sure it is leak-free and within the specified service life. Drain the fuel tank to prevent water and impurities from settling.
Hydraulic system inspection: The oil level of the hydraulic oil tank should be moderate. Too low oil level will affect the operation of the hydraulic system. Carefully observe whether the hydraulic oil pipe is intact, leaking or damaged, and confirm that the joints are tight. In addition, the connection status of components such as the hydraulic pump and hydraulic cylinder should also be checked.
Travel system inspection: Check the track tension and adjust it to the standard value (too loose will cause derailment, too tight will increase wear). Check whether the track shoes and chain links are worn or cracked.
Electrical system inspection: The battery should be fully charged, the electrode terminals should be clean and tight, and there should be no signs of corrosion. At the same time, check whether the lighting functions of the entire vehicle, such as headlights, turn signals and brake lights, are working properly. In addition, the wiring of the starter motor and generator should be stable, and the belt should not be loose or worn.
(2) Stay alert at work/Manténgase alerta en el trabajo
Instrument monitoring: When the bulldozer is operating, you should always pay attention to the various parameters on the instrument panel, such as the water temperature gauge, oil temperature gauge, oil pressure gauge and current gauge, to ensure that they are within the normal range. If any abnormality is found, the machine should be stopped immediately for detailed inspection.
Listen to the sounds: Listen carefully to the various sounds of the bulldozer when it is working, including the sound of the engine, the transmission system and the hydraulic system. If you hear any abnormal sounds, such as knocking, friction or whistling, you should stop the machine immediately to check for faults.
Load control: Avoid overloading the bulldozer for a long time, and choose the working gear and speed according to the actual situation. Excessive load may cause engine overheating and excessive wear of parts, which will affect the service life of the equipment.
(3) Careful maintenance after work/Mantenimiento cuidadoso después del trabajo
Cleaning the body: After the bulldozer is finished, use a high-pressure water gun or broom to thoroughly clean the dirt, dust and debris from the body. Pay special attention to the cleaning of key parts such as the radiator, engine compartment and tracks to ensure good heat dissipation and avoid accumulation of foreign matter.
Inspection of wearing parts: Check the wear of the bulldozer’s blade, blade, track shoe, supporting roller, sprocket and other wearing parts. If severe wear is found, it should be recorded and replaced in time to ensure the continuous and stable operation of the bulldozer.
Lubrication maintenance: According to the bulldozer’s lubrication chart, add grease to various lubrication points such as joint bearings, slewing supports and hinges. This is to ensure the smooth operation of these parts, thereby reducing friction and wear between parts.
Maintenance record filling: After each day’s work, record the bulldozer’s working hours, operation details, maintenance measures performed, and any problems found. These records will provide valuable reference for future equipment maintenance and review.
2. Regular maintenance of bulldozers/Mantenimiento periódico de las excavadoras
(1) Engine maintenance/Mantenimiento del motor
Oil change: Follow the engine’s working hours or maintenance cycle to change the oil and oil filter regularly. When draining the old oil, make sure it is completely drained and replace it with a new oil filter element. When adding new oil, it must be done in accordance with the specified model and quantity.
Air filter maintenance: The cleanliness of the air filter is crucial to the air intake quality and performance of the engine. The air filter element should be taken out regularly, and the dust should be blown out from the inside to the outside with compressed air, or cleaned with clean water and dried before use. If the filter element is damaged or seriously blocked, it needs to be replaced in time.
Fuel filter replacement: The fuel filter can filter impurities in the fuel and prevent them from entering the engine fuel system. To ensure a clean and smooth fuel supply, the fuel filter should be replaced regularly.
Engine valve clearance adjustment: According to the technical requirements of the engine, the valve clearance needs to be checked and adjusted regularly. Improper valve clearance will affect the normal operation of the engine, resulting in power reduction, increased fuel consumption, and poor valve sealing.
(2) Transmission system maintenance/Mantenimiento del sistema de transmisión
Gearbox maintenance: Check the gearbox oil level and oil quality regularly. If the oil level is too low, replenish it in time. After a certain number of working hours, the gearbox oil and filter need to be replaced. At the same time, check whether the gearbox shifting mechanism is flexible and reliable, and whether the meshing of each gear is normal.
Final drive maintenance: The final drive is responsible for transmitting power to the track and bears a large load. Therefore, the oil level of the final drive needs to be checked regularly, and any leakage should be repaired in time. At the same time, the wear of the drive wheel, gear ring and other parts should be checked, and adjusted or replaced as needed.
Track tension adjustment: Track tension has an important impact on the driving performance and track life of the bulldozer. Therefore, the track tension needs to be checked regularly, which can generally be done by adjusting the tensioning cylinder. Too loose tracks may cause derailment, while too tight tracks will increase driving resistance and wear of parts.
(3) Hydraulic system maintenance/Mantenimiento del sistema hidráulico
Hydraulic oil replacement: Hydraulic oil may deteriorate due to contamination or oxidation during long-term use, thus affecting the performance of the hydraulic system. Therefore, the hydraulic oil and hydraulic filter should be replaced regularly according to the specified working hours or oil quality test results. When replacing the hydraulic oil, it is also necessary to clean the inside of the hydraulic oil tank at the same time.
Hydraulic pump and cylinder inspection: Carefully examine the working status of the hydraulic pump, including whether its pressure and flow are normal, and whether there is any abnormal noise or vibration. At the same time, check whether the sealing performance of the hydraulic cylinder is intact, pay attention to whether there is leakage, and check whether there are scratches or wear marks on the surface of the piston rod. If any problems are found, repair or replace the relevant parts immediately.
(4) Other system maintenance/Otro mantenimiento del sistema
Braking system maintenance: The wear of the brake pads is the key. The thickness of the brake pads should be checked regularly. Once the thickness is lower than the specified value, it must be replaced in time. At the same time, pay attention to the brake fluid level of the braking system to ensure that it is sufficient, and test the braking effect to ensure its sensitivity and reliability.
Steering system maintenance: The working conditions of steering cylinder, steering clutch and other components directly affect the steering performance of the bulldozer. Therefore, these components need to be checked regularly to ensure that they can work flexibly and smoothly. In addition, the lubricating oil of the steering system needs to be added or replaced regularly, and the connection of the steering control mechanism needs to be checked to see if it is firm and reliable.
3. Long-term parking and maintenance/Estacionamiento y mantenimiento de largo plazo
(1) Clean thoroughly to avoid residual dirt from corroding the metal.
(2) Anti-rust treatment: Apply anti-rust grease to exposed metal parts and oil the scraper and blade.
(3) Oil protection: Replace all the oil and run for 5 minutes to ensure that the system is covered with an oil film.
(4) Battery: Disconnect the negative pole and charge once a month.
(5) Tracks: Raise the equipment so that the tracks are off the ground.
4. Notes/Notas
(1) Use original or certified accessories. Poor quality filter elements/oil will accelerate wear.
(2) Record maintenance time and create a maintenance log (e.g. hours, parts replaced).
(3) Severe working conditions (dusty, high humidity) require shortening the maintenance cycle.
5. Summary/Resumen
Through systematic maintenance, the failure rate can be significantly reduced, and the economy and reliability of the bulldozer can be improved. It is recommended to formulate a personalized maintenance plan based on the equipment manual and actual working conditions.
