What are the reasons for the high water temperature of the diesel engine?

In actual use, high engine water temperature is a frequently encountered problem. In fact, it is not difficult to see from the structure and working principle of the engine that the main causes of this problem are nothing more than the following two aspects:

First, there is a problem with the cooling system; second, the engine itself is malfunctioning; then how to judge which aspect is the problem? Through the inspection of the following steps, we can gradually find the cause of the problem.

1. Check the coolant

The most likely cause of excessive operating temperature of diesel engines is insufficient coolant. When a diesel engine is working, it generates a lot of heat, which is concentrated on the engine parts and cannot be dissipated in time. If the coolant is insufficient, heat dissipation through the radiator will not solve the problem, which will cause the engine’s water temperature to be high.

2. Check the thermostat

Under normal circumstances, when the thermostat valve is 78-88 degrees Celsius, as the temperature of the diesel engine gradually rises, it will gradually open, and more and more coolant will participate in the large-cycle cooling system of the engine. The failures of the thermostat mainly include the main valve cannot be fully opened or stuck between the large and small cycles, the aging of the thermostat and the leakage caused by the poor sealing, etc., these failures will cause the large circulation of the cooling water to be poor and the engine overheats.

3. Check the amount of oil

Because the temperature of the diesel engine is high when it is working, it is necessary to cool down the diesel engine in time. Therefore, the requirements for the heat dissipation performance and lubrication performance of the engine oil will be higher. Adding too much oil will cause the engine to have greater resistance when working; if there is less oil, it will affect the lubrication and heat dissipation of the engine, so when changing the oil, you must add it in accordance with the standard required by the engine, not more The better.

4. Check the fan

At present, engine manufacturers generally use silicone oil clutch fans. This fan adjusts its speed through temperature changes. The key control component is a spiral bimetallic temperature sensor. If it has a problem, it will cause the cooling fan to stop. Turning or reducing the speed directly affects the heat dissipation of the engine. Similarly, for other cooling fans that use belt links, check and adjust the tightness of the belt to ensure the fan speed.

5. Check the oil filter element

Because diesel fuel itself contains impurities, coupled with some metal wear debris generated during the working process of the engine, combined with the entry of impurities in the air, the production of oil oxides, etc., the impurities in the engine oil will gradually increase. If you use a low-quality filter to save money, it will not only block the oil circuit, but also easily lose the role of intercepting impurities in the oil. In this way, due to the increase of impurities, the wear of other parts such as the cylinder block will inevitably increase, and the water temperature will rise. high.

6. Check your own workload

When the engine works under heavy load, it will generate more heat. If the engine works in this state for a long time, not only the engine temperature will increase, but the service life of the engine will be greatly reduced.

In fact, the diesel engine “fever” is often caused by various reasons. Many of the low-level problems can be avoided through daily inspections. Therefore, the usual inspection and maintenance should never be ignored.
