In order to adapt to various working conditions and improve productivity, construction cranes require that the working speed of the hoisting mechanism be changeable. In light load, empty hook drop and high hoisting height occasions, higher working speed is required to improve the production efficiency of the crane. When heavy loads, large objects are transported, and heavy objects are dropped at a high speed to close to the place of placement, for safe, reliable and accurate operation, a lower working speed is required.

In addition, in order to meet the requirements of the mechanism or equipment installation work, the hoisting mechanism also needs a lower positioning speed. Therefore, the hoisting mechanism of the construction crane is generally equipped with a speed regulating device. There are various speed adjustment methods according to the different transmission modes of the hoisting mechanism. The speed regulating device of the hoisting mechanism requires a wide range of speed regulation, stable speed regulation, reliable work, simple structure and convenient operation.

Hydraulic drive winch mechanism usually adopts adjusting the engine throttle to change the hydraulic pump flow and controlling the reversing valve to change the channel area to carry out the joint speed regulation of throttling. This kind of speed regulation method has a large speed regulation range, stable and stepless speed regulation, simple and reliable, and can realize fine-tuning of the working speed of the hoisting mechanism. But the disadvantage is that the power loss of throttling is large, and the further increase of the lifting speed is limited by the flow of the hydraulic pump. In order to increase the working speed of the hoisting mechanism, in the multi-pump fixed-quantity system, oil pumps are often used in parallel to adjust the speed, and a confluence valve is set in the system to control the confluence of the multiple pumps to realize the rapid lifting of the hoisting mechanism. Sometimes, the method of supplying oil in series and parallel of hydraulic motors is also used in the system to adjust the speed.
