116-1359 camshaft bearing 98.11 mm CAT Spare Part

Short Description:

Bearings are a crucial component of the camshaft, positioned within the engine cylinder block. The lobes on the camshaft correspond to the engine valves; as the camshaft rotates, these lobes actuate the opening and closing of the engine’s intake and exhaust valves.

description

Camshaft bearing for Caterpillar 3508/3512/3516 engine overhaul, outer diameter 98.11 mm, supports camshaft and stabilizes valve timing.

The camshaft bearing is a supporting part of engine valve train. It supports the camshaft, reduces rotational friction, maintains radial positioning accuracy and ensures stable valve timing. Spalling of bearing alloy layer, excessive clearance, bearing scoring and poor lubrication will lead to camshaft wear, abnormal noise, disordered valve timing. In severe cases, the camshaft and cylinder head may be stuck and damaged.

Application Scenarios

Fit for Caterpillar 3508, 3512, 3516 series engines. Suitable for heavy‑duty operation of mine generator sets, large bulldozers and excavators. Used to replace worn, scored and alloy‑layer‑peeled old camshaft bearings.

Maintenance & Replacement Tips

Fully disassemble the engine, clean oil passages, grease and metal debris of bearing housing bore, check housing bore for deformation and damage.
Confirm bearing orientation and align oil hole with cylinder head oil passage before installation. Blocked oil passage due to misaligned oil hole is not allowed.
Press in steadily with professional pressing tool. Hammering or forced fitting is forbidden to avoid bearing deformation and alloy layer cracking.
Recheck outer diameter after pressing and confirm clearance is qualified. Rotate camshaft by hand after assembly, it should turn smoothly without jamming.
Do not reuse bearing with scoring, alloy peeling or excessive clearance; replace the whole set directly.

FAQ

Q: Can I replace only one damaged bearing shell?
A: It is recommended to replace the whole set of camshaft bearings during overhaul. New and old bearings have different wear rates, which may cause uneven clearance and re‑scuffing.

Q: Why is the camshaft tight to rotate after bearing pressing?
A: Check bearing deformation after pressing, misaligned oil hole, housing bore deformation or wall thickness tolerance deviation of bearing.
