The loader boom is the final part of the skid steer loader. These booms and their associated hydraulics are designed to support a variety of tools, not just buckets. The lifting capacity of the boom is strictly matched with other machine components so that the operator can lift the load, not the machine itself.
Most Caterpillar skid steer loaders and multi-terrain loaders use the so-called axial lift boom design. These booms are connected to the machine by a pin on each side. These pins lift the bucket along an arc. When the bucket begins to lift, it first moves outward, away from the machine. When the bucket rises above the height of the fixed pin, it will move closer to the car body.
When the bucket is in the lower position, the bucket is retracted close to the body, making the machine more stable and compact, and it is convenient to move the load around. As the bucket rises, it will move away from the body, and then straight up. This can expand the working range of the machine, and it is easier to put the loaded materials into the middle of the truck or put the pallet deep in the shelf. This is why Caterpillar’s recently launched skid steer loader adopts a new vertical lifting linkage device . For vertical cranes, the bucket is started from the retracted position-this is the same way that an axial lift crane works. However, when the bucket reaches a position near the operator’s horizontal line of sight, it will move about 0.6 meters away from the body. Then, the bucket will rise almost vertically, reaching its maximum height of 325 cm.
Precautions
The matters needing attention in the process of bucket replacement are as follows:
(1) When hitting the pin with a hammer, metal shavings may fly into the eyes and cause serious injury. When performing this operation, always wear goggles, helmets, gloves, and other protective equipment.
(2) When unloading the bucket, place the bucket steadily.
(3) Hit the pin shaft hard, the pin shaft may fly out and injure people around. Therefore, before hitting the pin again, ensure the safety of people around.
(4) When disassembling the pin, pay special attention not to stand under the bucket, and do not put your feet or any part of your body under the bucket. When disassembling or installing the pin, for the sake of safety, with the people involved in the connection work, make sure of the signals and work carefully.
